HFC applications
Recent studies have shown that oils derived from ZEROL™ alkylbenzenes can be used with HFC refrigerants such as R134a, R407C, and R410A in specific applications. These applications include household refrigerators, window air conditioning units, and small split systems. Major advantages of using ZEROL™ alkylbenzene oil instead of polyolester oil in these HFC systems include significant cost saving in both oil and in handling procedures, and also superior lubrication in certain systems.
For systems that require polyolester oils, Shrieve also offers ZEROL™ ESTER polyolester oils. These oils come in a variety of viscosities, and have years of proven reliability.
CO2 applications
The HVAC industry is realising significant changes due to problems associated with ozone depletion. Amongst the various refrigerants proposed with less ozone depleting potential, carbon dioxide (R744) offers significant opportunities, which is leading to increasingly widespread application of this refrigerant. Areas where development is being extensively undertaken include vehicle air-conditioning, heat pumps for sanitary water heating, and larger commercial and industrial refrigeration units. Shrieve offer a full viscosity range of speciality double end-capped polyalkylene glycol lubricants suitable for use in all systems where CO2 refrigerant is employed.
ZEROL ™ “RFL-EP” polyalkylene gycol lubricants oils have several major advantages over alternate lubricants in applications with CO2 including achieving the required levels of miscibility with CO2 over a wide range of lubricant concentration and temperature, reduced hygroscopicity compared with water absorbing tendancy of many other PAGs, excellent chemical, thermal and hydrolytic stability, and superior lubricity.
ZEROL ™ “RFL-EP” polyalkylene glycol lubricants have industry approval for CO2 applications, including Dorin and Mycom.
Vehicle Air-Conditioning
Almost all new mobile air conditioning systems are filled with R-134a and lubricated with polyalkylene glycol lubricants. Synthetic polyalkylene glycol (PAG) lubricants demonstrate excellent lubricity and good solubility with refrigerant HFC R-134a. Shrieve Products International offer two ranges of polyalkylene glycol product for mobile air conditioning systems.
ZEROL ™ “PAG” grades are fully formulated ISO grade polyalkylene glycol lubricants designed specifically for application with R-134a in mobile air-conditioning systems. These products are manufactured to exacting standards and providing high and consistent product quality. ZEROL ™ “PAG” grades are designed for application in A/C systems where the compressor requires a lubricant with viscosity of 46 – 150 cSt @ 40ºC.
The range offers high and premium levels of lubrication performance, equivalent and in many aspects superior to other industry standards.
ZEROL ™ RFL-X Grades are speciality double end-capped fully formulated ISO grade polyalkylene glycol lubricants designed specifically for optimum levels of performance with R-134a in mobile air-conditioning systems. These products are offered in the highest and most consistent product quality with high capping ratios. They are formulated for extremely high levels of performance in A/C systems where the compressor requires a lubricant with viscosity of 46 - 150 cSt @ 40ºC. They are complementary to the basic ZEROL™ PAG product range recommended as a standard for Auto A/C applications. New developments
• At this time, we are also in the process of commercialising a brand new lubricant enhancer family, known as our "ICE" technology. These products are to be branded for stationary refrigeration as ZEROL ICE™ range and will be launched in Europe during 2005. ZEROL ICE™ is an innovative oil enhancer that when added to existing lubricants at additive levels, can provide major improvements in lubricity and wear performance. This can lead to major benefits in terms of:
•INCREASED SYSTEM EFFICIENCY/REDUCED POWER CONSUMPTION
•EXTENDS SYSTEM LIFE BY REDUCING WEAR AND SYSTEM LOADING
•ENHANCED COOLING PERFORMANCE AND NOISE REDUCTION
